Psychodrama
Psychodrama is a very effective psychotherapeutical method. The client can use this method with their psychotherapist to cure his or her psychological problems either alone or as part of a group. Read on and learn about the making of the psychodrama for individuals.
Psychodrama for individuals
In the case of an individual person, a participant becomes a stage manager of a fictitious situation managing possible situations and reactions by means of figurines, little pieces of wood or dice. In particular, the therapist is the stage manager´s supervisor (an empathic coordinator) and puts questions to make the stage manager think over a specific situation emerged. Through them, the stage manager realizes new aspects of themselves, their lives, lives of the figurines on the stage-table. The therapist, through their questions, should mainly provoke feelings that the stage manager has to experience in order to know another bit of himself or herself.
In this case, the stage manager has a unique chance to see fictitious situations from above. That, in itself, enables them to get a great view and knowledge. The therapist has a chance to put himself or herself in the place of the stage manager´s personality. If the relation between the therapist and the stage manager is based upon trust (as it should be with every relation), the therapist will almost be able – through the roles, gestures, face-play, words, energy they radiate – to get a glimps of the stage manager´s subconscious.
During the course of psychodrama, with the stage manager being absorbed in the situation, his or her subconscious is gradually surfacing while playing the same fictitious role. This new appearance of theirs is perceived by the therapist who now can denominate the feelings thus released from the subconscious correctly and reflect them back to the stage manager. Exactly at this moment it comes to an AHA-effect when the stage manager admits there is a problem. Suddenly, they can see situations, attitudes in their own lives that they did not want to see before and that they have displaced into the subconscious. This is how the real core and the causes of unresolved troubles in the stage manager´s life are revealed. Identification of the cause alone is not enough! The main cause snowballs, taking on a whole range of aspects that cloud and defer the real solution of the problem´s cause.
Therefore, washing the pig alone is not enough, the entire pigsty has to be swept clean and whitewashed as well.
This method is applied by Ivona Machová, the author of the above text and a consultant.
