Marketing
Marketing is a general discipline that deals with markets and its behavior. It emerged in the United States before World War II. In essence it contains following categories: stimulation of a market demand, market research, product portfolio planning and promoting products and services. This is called 4P rule: Product (products & services), Price, Place (distribution) and Promotion. Particular way of applying 4P rule is called marketing mix. 1P) Products and services – the category focuses on quality and market demand of particular product or service. Marketing research is a tool that provides information about kind of products and services that potential customers require in the field. Based on the research results, company’s product portfolio can be adjusted accordingly. 2P) Price – the price of products and services has to be set in accordance with its utility value and with respect to price of market competitors. 3P) Place – the placement of the product where it sells well, that is to the right place at the right time, is the key element of any successful marketing strategy (e.g. Christmas presents in November, jogging equipment at the end of winter etc.) 4P) Promotion – any promotion activity has to point at needs of particular target groups. At the same time, promotion and advertisement strategy has to respect specificity of each target group.
