Communication with an individual (alternatively called Face to Face) is communication face to face with another person. Its sense is to find common understanding, agreement, cooperation or just a suitable expert solution. Achieving such a result effectively means making the proper use of both the verbal and non-verbal communication.

Communication is know to us since we are born. We all have learned to communicate every day and we use communication every day. Yet it does not mean we know precisely how it works and what techniques we are supposed to use in order to achieve the right result with the other people. It is more than just informing. Communication is largely a means to incite a subsequent activity (even if all it has incited is interest).

It is managers and team leaders who are supposed to master communication brilliantly, because the results of their work are not what they have personally done but what their workers, team members, have done. It is, therefore, essential to understand what the other person stands for, their:

  • attitudes
  • motifs
  • views
  • knowledge
  • interests
  • ..

Only then we will be able to find a way to achieve understanding - insight - agreement - cooperation. However, this is still not enough. Effective communication requires elementary knowledge and its proper use, in particular:

Be aware, though, that the effective communication needs to be trained. For the way we see ourselves differs from the way the others see us.

Opportunites to communicate face to face

Such communication often takes place:

  • during an interview between the boss and the worker
  • while seeking the solution with an expert or specialist
  • during the job interview
  • during an audit - between the auditor and the audited
  • during the negotiation with:
    • the customer
    • the supplier
    • the business partner
    • the journalist
    • ...
  • during infrormal communication with a colleague
  • an so on.

There are other, more challenging communications - negotiation, conflict communication, communication with the team (Face to Team), communication with the public (Face to Public), internal communication, external communication, crisis communication, ...
